The client’s brief was for a design solution that reflected the simple articulated form of the Australian Wool shed that has been the subject of study in two books by Peter Freeman, Oxford press 1980.
The design had to meet a level of passive sustainable energy performance with single main floor level slabs sunk into the environment contours. The structure was completed by salvaging 300 x 300 iron bark sections erected in a post and beam grid frame. All framing and flooring was from recycled wharf timbers.
The project received Australia wide television publicity when featured in the `Home Show’, a series that interviewed architects and showcased designs Australia wide. The property was also featured as ‘Best property’ in the Title Deeds section of the Sydney Morning Herald.
