PROJECT - MITTAGONG HIGHLANDS RETAIL COMPLEX
CLIENT - WOOLWORTHS LIMITED
As senior Architect with i2c Design and Management, the principal was responsible for design, coordination, documentation and regular site inspections for the $34 million retail complex located on the southern perimeter of Mittagong, NSW.
The project comprised of a steel and concrete framed, fire engineered, two level shopping centre with main car parking facility at lower level and direct off street parking in front on a corner site. Total cost $35 Million.
The owner-developer was Woolworths Ltd, which necessitated accommodation for two major tennants, a Woolworths Supermarket and Big W as well as 36 specialty tenancies.
The development involved a protracted development approval process with local government due to community objections. Local Government required Section 94 contributions including extensive civil and main road works adjacent to the site.
The development was complicated by the discovery of early heritage valued steel works in the middle of the site. The affected area of the site had to be substantially clear spanned and structure subject to further fire engineering. Suspended floor system consisted of W deck supported by prestressed concrete beam and column grid. The external wall system consisted of load bearing precast panels supporting steel roof framing.
